COL William L. Greer, U.S. Army 

William Greer began his military career in 1978 when he was commissioned into the Army’s FA Branch from the Kansas State University ROTC program. Greer was first assigned to 3-18th FA, 212th FA Brigade at Fort Sill. He served in several positions culminating as Commander, Battery C, 3-18th FA. Greer was assigned to the 56th Field Artillery Command in Schwabisch Gmund, with a follow-on in Heilbronn, where his duties included G3 Training Officer and duty as a Pershing II Platoon Leader. He was then assigned as an Assistant Professor of Military Science at Iowa State University ROTC program. Following graduation from CGSC, he reported for duty as FSO with 2-7th FA, 10th MTN DIVARTY at Fort Drum. He went on to serve in the DIVARTY S3, before returning to 2-7th as the XO, preparing the battalion for deployment in support of the UNOSOM I. Greer reported for duties as the Brigade FSO O/C at JRTC, Fort Polk prior to being assigned as DIVARTY XO in the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell. From 1996-1998, he commanded 3-320th FA, “The RED KNIGHTS”, 101st DIVARTY, the DS battalion for the 3d BCT, 101st Airborne Division, “The RAKKASANS”. During his time as battalion commander, he deployed in support of XVIIIth Airborne Corps Operation “Purple Dragon”, and twice to JRTC. Greer then attended USAWC before reporting for duty at the JRTC; this time as the Senior Fires O/C. In 2001, COL Greer returned to the 101st Airborne Division as the DIVARTY Commander. The 9/11 Attack would change his focus as the DIVARTY assumed the security and defense of Fort Campbell; portions of the DIVARTY and Division would deploy that fall in support of the defeat of ISIS and Taliban in Afghanistan. In 2003, Greer deployed with the 101st to OIF1 in Iraq.  After command, he went to the Republic of Korea as the Deputy J5, USFK, and the Assistant Deputy C5, CFC-Korea. In 2005, COL Greer returned to Fort Sill as the Installation’s Chief of Staff where he assisted in the transition to the “Fires Center of Excellence”, and focused on resourcing the ADA School movement from Fort Bliss. On 31 January 2008, COL William Greer retired from active service, transitioning to an Assistant Professor at the U.S. Army’s School for Command Preparation. In these roles, he has held various positions, including Program Manager for the Brigade Tactical Commander Development Course, Program Manager for the Battalion Commander Tactical Development Course, Instructor for the Chief of Staff Army Command Course, and Program Manager for the Army Strategic Education Program-Command course. He continues to volunteer as an International Hunter Education and Kansas Credentialed Hunting Safety Instructor.
