Professional Bio

COL David K. Germain’s Field Artillery Career began as a Private in 13A Advanced Individual Training in November 1967. Immediately after AIT, PFC Germain attended and graduated from The Field Artillery NCO Candidate Course in April 1968. He was promoted to Staff Sergeant as an Honor Graduate after the On-the-Job-Training with 2nd Bn 31st FA in July 1968.
SSG Germain then served as a Chief of Section with A Battery, 3rd Bn 14th FA in Vietnam, followed by an extension as Liaison NCO to 1st Bn 14th FA. After returning to college, he joined C Battery 1st Bn 180th FA, Arizona Army National Guard, as a Chief of Section and Chief of Firing Battery. In January 1974, Sergeant First Class Germain was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant.
In April 1976, he was posted to the new 2nd Bn, 180th FA as the full-time training officer and served in staff and firing battery positions. He commanded C Battery and Service Battery and was the full-time supervisor of the battalion.
CPT Germain moved to the state headquarters in 1983 serving as Troop Command Training officer, Arizona Military Academy Director of Instruction, State Training Officer and Troop Command Executive officer. He was awarded the Honorable Order of Saint Barbara in 1984.
Colonel Germain was State Deputy Chief of Staff, Plans and Operations for six years, before commanding 153rd FA Brigade for two years. In 2000 he then returned to active duty at National Guard Bureau as Army National Guard Direorate Chief of Training Division and then Chief Operating Officer/G-3 when the Global War on Terror began. Shortly before his retirement with 30 years of commissioned service, he was awarded the Ancient Order of Saint Barbara in 2003.
