Professional Bio
Airborne and ranger qualified, Wilson served for 24 years active duty in variety of assignments including in the 101st Airborne Division, the 2nd Infantry Division, and 18th Airborne Corps.
He served as an executive producer and writer for the award-winning short film Doug's Christmas, which won Best Illinois Film at the 2015 Route 66 Film Festival, and was an official selection at the GI Film Festival.
Wilson served as a coach and team captain for two military martial arts competition teams. He holds an 8th degree black belt in Taekwondo, and he won the 2009 silver medal at the US Open for Taekwondo. In 2025, he was inducted into the United States Martial Arts Hall of Fame.
Following his retirement from the military, he worked for 15 years as a defense planner at NATO headquarters in Brussels Belgium, where he served as the Planning and Review Process (PARP) Officer for Belarus and Ukraine, and as the principal staff officer for NATO’s assistance to Iraq through the Defense and Related Security Capacity Building Initiative (DCBI).
During his time in the US Army and NATO, he saw overseas service in Belarus, Bosnia, Iraq, Kosovo, Korea, Libya, Russia, and Ukraine.
He is the author of a number of articles on martial arts and military subjects including those on terrorism, military strategy, and martial arts. He holds a PhD in International Relations, a JD, an MBA and a BS in economics. In 2025, he passed the California Bar exam.
He is married to Dr. Kay Arnold Wilson, an award-winning photographer, law school student, champion dragon boat paddler, and black belt martial artist.
