Professional Bio

Captain Thomas Joseph McDermott was commissioned in 2017 as a Field Artillery Officer following his graduation from the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. His first assignment was to 1st Battalion, 41st Field Artillery Regiment at Fort Stewart, Georgia where he served as an Assistant Operations Officer before becoming the Company Fire Support Officer for Centurion Company, 1st Battalion, 64th Armored Regiment, and as Platoon Fire Direction Officer and Battery Executive Officer Charlie Battery, 1st Battalion, 41st Field Artillery Regiment. He has two rotations to the Republic of Korea.
Upon graduating from the Field Artillery Captains Career Course, Captain McDermott reported to Fort Hood, Texas and served as the Squadron Fire Direction Officer for Steel Squadron, 3d Cavalry Regiment. He currently serves as the Squadron Fire Support Officer for Longknife Squadron, 3d Cavalry Regiment.
Captain McDermott is a graduate of the Field Artillery Basic Officer Leadership Course, Field Artillery Captains Career Course, Joint Firepower Course, and the Joint Fires Observer Course. Captain McDermott holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology with a minor in Nutrition from the University of South Florida. His military awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal with 2 OLC, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon and Overseas Service Ribbon.
